Emerald Creek Ice-Creamery is a locally owned and operated family business located along Kennedy Hwy, approximately 8kms Cairns side of Mareeba in the Emerald Creek area. 

Gelato: Why not just call it ice-cream? People always ask, "What's the difference between ice-cream and gelato?". Gelato is an Italian form of ice-cream that uses little air during manufacturing, and is therefore a more substantial product. Usually it contains a relatively low percentage of butterfat - around 3% to 4%. Emerald Creek  follows the gelato manufacturing principles (we don't want you spending money on air...), but we recognise that Australians have an affection for the term "ice-cream". So do we.

At Emerald Creek, we make our Gelato using a hot process to blend the full cream milk, pure cream and sugar.

The mix is then blended with fruits, nuts, chocolate and native spices to produce desired flavours. This base is poured into a batch freezer that whips and freezes the product at high speed to produce Gelato, which is then extracted into tubs. The fresh product is further improved by placing the tub into a blast freezer, before being boxed and transferred into the freezer room.

Sorbet: is a fat-free, water based mix (no dairy products) and is especially refreshing in our tropical climate. Our Sorbet is made using water and fresh fruit including Lemon, Lime, Mango, Strawberry, Pineapple, Mandarin, Kiwi Fruit, Dragon Fruit and more. Some people know Sorbet to be a course ice mixture, but ours is smooth and creamy.
