I am the proud mother of two little angels: Jasmine and Angelique. We are blessed with a beautiful, devoted husband and father, Duncan.

When I became a mother, I faced many challenges. It was through these challenges I believe I received the ultimate gift — the message of this book.

My new life, as a mother, felt like it was in a spin cycle of conflicting, well-meaning advice, which seemed to be driving me in furious circles. It was only when I discovered how to tune in to my instincts that clarity and answers replaced the craziness with calm and confident direction.

I was so excited about the discoveries I was making that I madly, in any spare moment, wrote them down — as to never forget them again. Little did I realise I could not lose this understanding, as it’s a more natural and effortless way to be
in life.

I feel, in retrospect, that finding this connection was assisted through my experience in writing music. For many years, I was frustrated by the fact that I couldn’t write anything original, or even think of it. Letting all influences, thoughts and expectations go allowed originality, clarity and my real core to be expressed through song.

Intuitive Mothering simply flowed through me in the same way. It became an incredible light to my life. It’s almost as if my instincts seemed to write the book for me. Instinct, I realised, is an amazing tool in all of life — not just in mothering. When we get it in the context of mothering, it will transcend and transform all of our life.

The writing itself was therefore a joyful discovery. Unbelievably, each time I sat down to write, appropriate examples would simply be there in my life. I call this synchronicity. It happens when you’re in tune — life simply flows, creates and grows upon itself.

I knew exactly when the writing was complete: there was no more to say. My life felt different, wonderfully different. I felt calm, confident, self-determined, in control and so happy. My children were happier than ever and seemed to benefit greatly in their own confidence and connection to one another, others and me.

I then felt deeply compelled to share this gift. It was not mine alone. It belonged to all women, all mothers; all people in fact. I felt incredibly honoured and privileged when the publishing process flowed as automatically as the writing itself. Intuitive Mothering found Selwa Anthony and in no time at all, New Holland took it to the world. Every day it transforms another life.
