THE PAPILLON PAGE
For those unfamiliar
with the breed, the Papillon is a breed going back many hundreds of
years and were favourites in the courts of Spain and France and often
referred to as "The Dog of Kings and Queens". Papillon is French for
butterfly and relates to the movement of the ears when the dogs are on
the run.
We have two varieties, one is
the erect ear the other is the down ear, both are correct and the latter was the
original type until the erect ear type became popular.
These dogs were once called the
Continental Toy Spaniel with two varieties one being the Papillon (erect Ear)
the other is the
Phalène (Down Ear) or the
Butterfly and the Moth as some people refer to them.
To-day both varieties in
Australia are Shown in the Toy Group or Group one and under
the name of Papillon.

This little dog is "BP" who is a "carer of
the aged" lives in a nursing home and helps to give joy to the aged. He is
doing a wonderful job from all accounts. He has helped put smiles on the
face's of many of the residence.
This is "Stanley" Quinvale Standing
Ovation, the first male Phalène that I have Titled. When he has less than 18
months old he won Reserve Challenge Dog at the Brisbane Exhibition beating
25 other dogs a lot of which were more mature than him and some from other
States.
