ILL EQUIPPED
picChildren don’t always fail at school because they lack intelligence or aptitude. Often they come from disadvantaged backgrounds, have few positive role models in their lives, are having difficulties in the home or in the wider community.

Whatever the reason, the resultant anger, depression and lack of confidence can be disruptive, preventing them from fitting into a conventional school environment. At the same time, most parents and teachers are ill equipped to deal with the issue of extremely troubled or disruptive kids.

AN IMPORTANT CROSSROAD

When kids are disruptive, their peer groups often reject them. They fall behind in their education, whittling away their employment options for later on. This combination of social rejection and educational failure can lead to far from desirable outcomes, such as court, jail or even suicide.

At this age, there’s still time to make a positive life choice that can lead to a successful adulthood. It is an important crossroad and an opportunity that should not be overlooked.

THE NEED FOR A NEW APPROACH
What’s really required, right now, is a new type of education model that keeps these kids out of trouble and on track for a fulfilling and meaningful life; a more participatory style of learning that will prepare them for the responsibilities of adult life and prevent them from going ‘off the rails’.

And that’s where KARABINER steps in…

NOWHERE TO TURN

There are not too many options for 9-15 year-old boys who are not succeeding at school or have been expelled. With no other educational options, scant future work prospects and diminished confidence, these kids are really in trouble, with nowhere to turn.
