The Fantasy Genre

A brief introduction to the fantasy genre is no easy feat. It is an enormous genre well worth exploring if you have the interest, know-how, and dedication. The online Encyclopedia Wikipedia defines the genre of fantasy as:

... a genre of art that uses magic and other supernatural forms as a primary element of plot, theme, or setting. The genre is generally distinguished from science fiction and horror by overall look, feel, and theme of the individual work, though there is a great deal of overlap between the three (collectively known as speculative fiction)(Wikipedia-fantasy).

Yet the genre of fantasy can include within itself just about any other genre. In short, fantasy simply must be a story set in and based upon a world or environment unlike that in which we live in or be a variation of that in which we live in. From there, it is at the author's and reader's discretion. This site aims to provide both author and reader the tools in which they can use to become involved within this genre with an intentional focus upon the Web and the huge resources available to both reader and author via this relatively new resource as well as providing a warning to the perils the Web necessarily comes with and ways to avoid these dangers.
