Hi!

THE STORY OF THE DOG
How inner alignment brings forth outer harmony

I look forward to my morning walk; it’s a nice walk, past lovely gardens, through small parks and paths flanked by trees. I listen to my music by headphones, walking briskly, enjoying the fresh air. That was until my encounter with THE DOG!

One morning, on my morning walk, I noticed a small dog on the other side of the street, which as soon as it saw me, rushed over, barking and growling very aggressively, while running around me and jumping up in a threatening way.

My initial conditioned reaction was fear and also anger, I tried to shoo it away, but that made things worse. So I kept on walking and felt very relieved when it eventually backed off.

Next day I set out rather nervously and the same thing happened. As soon as it saw me, its body went rigid and he stormed over to me. I felt the fear rise in me. This time he didn’t actually hang around that long, as there were other people walking down that street which he turned on.

I thought about walking a different route, but I knew that wasn’t the solution, because in the meantime, the Witness in me knew this situation was teaching me a lesson. So I meditated about the whole situation and thought, I mustn’t react from my ego, I must respond with love!

So, the morning after that, (still feeling nervous), pondering about Love and how love heals division and separation. And as I continued to think about how we were both different expressions of the same Source, my consciousness was rising.

I didn't see the dog on my way, but on my way back, I spotted him down the street, sniffing around, as he usually does. I could feel my conditioned self slightly tightening up with apprehension, but made a deliberate effort to stay focused on the feeling of Love. I kept on walking, and inwardly addressed the dog with 'Namaste' (The God in me acknowledges the God in you).

Then when I got near, he lifted his head, but instead of his body going all rigid and then charging towards me barking aggressively, he looked up and noticed me, but stayed relaxed and carried on sniffing. So I walked past and when I looked back he was still sniffing.

So the dog showed me the lesson of Oneness!

Till next time,
with love,
Fif
