INTRODUCTION

When Larrane Ingram received a letter from Novo Nordisk telling her that her supplies of porcine insulin would be coming to an end, she feared for her future health.   Her experiences using synthetic human insulin were some of the worst in her life and ones she did not want to repeat under any circumstances.

Larrane went into action and searched for a solution to the problems that loomed ahead.   After desperate and frantic enquiries she discovered IDDT in the UK, and despite the distance, had many long conversations with Jenny Hirst in Northampton.

  • She discovered that she was not alone in being unable to use synthetic human insulin.
  • She discovered that she had to take action herself to try to ensure that her future health and well being was not going to be put in jeopardy by being forced to use an insulin that had intolerable adverse effects for her.
  • She discovered that there were other people in Australia with similar problems.

THE OUTCOME?

In late 1998 an IDDT arm was formed in Australia with the help of fellow 'sufferer', Michael Ginges.
At the beginning of 2000 Ian Kershaw, a diabetic who has also had adverse experiences with synthetic human insulin, joined the cause to generate and manage this Australian Web page.
