viewing the genealogy pages of Josephine PIKE. I started my research in
earnest after the untimely death of my first husband, and before the
tragic death of my dear father, mainly for medical purposes. Over the
years I became addicted to it, did voluntary work and started to compile a
book which is progressing slowly.
On the following pages I will endeavour to meld my creative style with my several decades of family research. Almost thirty years ago I bought my first computer, taught myself to use it and began recording what I had unearthed. Progress at times was slow and letters many. Proving often took years to find the necessary documentation. My family tree and history bridge at least five nationalities and many differing occupations. What began as a project for medical reasons developed into a fascinating hobby, compared to a huge jigsaw with missing pieces. Learning and researching are on going. One learns much history and geography along the way. In 1998 I tried the internet and found this not only educational but informative and rewarding but not without the frustrations of many crashes which I have gradually learnt to right. I hope that some of my many relatives will see this and like to contact me to contribute or find out more or just watch the progress. From one entry on a mailing list I received an email which provided the details for me to procure a marriage certificate which had eluded many worldwide for most of the century. Without some of my genealogy penfriends I may not be where I am today. Their discarded certificates held clues to my further research. Witnesses on certificates were researched too and some often fitted into the branches of my tree. Much has been done without costly research though I have found a good researcher for Glasgow who has followed through on information I could give him. He now believes it unlikely that I can go further on some branches without further clues surfacing.
