The Queensland Spinners Weavers and Fibre Artists Ltd present their annual
Craft and Open Day

Celebrating 40 years of Fibrecraft
Sunday May 31 @ The QSWFA Fibre Craft House in Auchenflower
12 Payne St, Auchenflower, from 9:30am to 3pm
Forty years ago a group of like minded people people gathered together to start The Queensland Spinners Weavers and Fibre Artists Ltd. The QSWFA has since grown and expanded with the times and on May 31 2009, will hold its annual craft and open day at Fibre Craft House in Auchenflower, 12 Payne St, Auchenflower, from 9:30am to 3pm.
The QSWFA has been a haven and inspiration for fibre artists for 40 years. 2009 is not just the ruby anniversary for the QSWFA, but is also the international year of natural fibre. Amongst a myriad of activities occurring on the day, QSWFA will also be presenting their annual Fashion Parade, whereby talented members will present their own featured garments, created from handspun, handdyed, hand woven and hand dyed fibres.
Many of the garments will be available for purchase on the day. Handcrafted items will also be on display at the many stalls. The Stalls and fashion parade though will be just two of many things at the Open day. Stalls will be offering cakes, jams, plants, secondhand books, and equipment. Amongst the displays will be demonstrations of spinning, weaving, dyeing, basketry, papermaking and felting.
Children will be able to take part in craft activities and snacks, lunch, BBQ and Devonshire teas will be available. The emporium shop will also be offering a feast of coloured fibres - stock including hand dyed yarns, handspun yarns, equipment, a rainbow of roving, fleeces, treetops hand painted roving and many exotic and luxury fibres available for purchase.
Young Spinners & Weavers
The modern day preoccupation with the internet and social networking is one that has been openly embraced by the craft community. Craft specific social networking sites such ravelry, craftster, whipup.net and knitterati, alongside blogs and handmade sellers-sites such as the Australian madeit.com.au and the international etsy.com, all now play a large part in allowing artists to sell, display and discuss their individually crafted items. Where once mystique and accessibility may have shrouded people's first forays into the fibre crafts, these sites have also served to further make the gentlearts accessible to a wide audience base. The QSWFA is for young and old alike.
CRAFT in PINK
QSWFA have and have had members for whom Breast Cancer is a personal experience. As a means of supporting Breast Cancer research, there will be a PINK table on Open Day. Featured will be items crafted in pink fibre. All funds raised from the sale of these items will go to a Breast Cancer charity.
