frequently asked questions

1 - the details on page XYZ are wrong.

Ok there are 4500 pages here so there's bound to be a few mistakes

Also I'm trying to piece together a very big jigsaw, and not all the bits are there. if you have any info which helps please let me know. I will be eternally grateful and you will receive a great reward here

2- why did you do this

I have no idea

my grandfather showed me a piece of paper in 1980 with his 12 brothers and sisters names and dates of birth ( I still have it) . I came across the OPRs in an Edinburgh Library in 1991 - I started searching again in 2000 and gathered a vast amount of information on  the parish of Kincardine and decided to put some of it online

3 - will you send me the entire 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891,1901 census and all your birth death and marriage records

eh no

4 - do you have details of a Ross family in Kincardine parish

Yes - I have details of 1310 of them - can you be more specific - see number 5

5 - do you have details of a John Ross born about 18XX with 3 kids and his wife was called YYY.

Yes - here's a bit of the census with them listed and their marriage date etc.

6 - You have my family listed here, do you have any more information

there is a chance, I will have a look and get back to you soon

7 - I think person A is my great great grandparent that moved to Australia in 1850

two answers here.

a) well they were listed on the census in 1841 and again in 1851 and died in 1860 and are buried in Kincardine Cemetery, so maybe not

or

b) they were listed on the census in 1841 and had another child in 1844 and there were clearances in 1845 and they were not listed in 1851 and this other website has details of them living in Australia

8 - you have used my information which I listed on another website.

oops sorry - I always try and list my sources and link back to the original site and give credit. I will fix it immediately.

9. Why is Mckenzie not Mackenzie and why is McKay not Mackay

Well I'm a Macleod, with a big M small a, small c (and small L) and my database originally had lots of MACLEOD names, so to quickly list Macleod's, I just typed mac and it went to the macleods. As more names were added I decided to make all Mc's and Mac's Mc's except Macleod. The overriding factor in making this important decision was to save wear and tear on the A key on my keyboard.

10. Will you please get of the computer and come and talk to me.

that's my wife - I better go!!!
