24 May 1845 - The Scotsman - Inverness Courier

The Glencalvie Tenants - We learn that the poor  people about to be removed from this remote glen have had the period fixed for their final departure extended for a fortnight longer, to enable them to look about for other residences. But a very few, we learn, of these ejected tenants have, as yet , procured other homes. Their case is exciting considerable attention and sympathy ; and we hear that a good many pecuniary contributions have been made to aid them. The whole population, amounting to about ninety individuals, are summoned out. The proprietor is said to be Major Robertson of Kindeace, at present abroad in Australia with his regiment. We understand that General Munro of Teaninich has most liberally and seasonably sent ten pounds for the ejected tenants to the Rev. Gustavus Aird of Creich, and nine pounds, collected in England by his daughter, the Hon. Mrs. Spencer, for the same object, to the Rev. Hector Allan, Kincardine. General Munro has, in addition, very handsomely offered two cottages with crofts for two of these destitute families, being the only places at present unoccupied on his property- Inverness Courier
